(Yicai) Feb. 7 -- Shares of China's BYD and several of its suppliers surged after the world's largest new energy vehicle company said it will unveil a new smart driving strategy.

BYD [SHE: 002594] closed 5.1 percent up at CNY326.90 (USD44.86) in Shenzhen today, after soaring 10 percent yesterday. The stock of the company's electronic component branch BYD Electronic [HKG: 0285] advanced nearly 20 percent to HKD53.75 (USD6.90) yesterday and remained unchanged today.

Meanwhile, shares of smart car lens provider Yutong Optical Technology [SHE: 300790] jumped 20 percent yesterday and 16.3 percent today to CNY28.91 (USD3.97). Smart driving chip manufacturer Horizon Robotics [HKG: 9660] soared 10.4 percent to HKD6.04 (78 US cents) today and 14.4 percent yesterday.

BYD announced yesterday that it will hold an intelligent strategy event on Feb. 10 to introduce an advanced smart driving system called God's Eye. The Shenzhen-based firm also said it aims to lower the barriers of smart driving and promote the widespread adoption of intelligent driving experiences.

From this year, BYD will equip all its vehicle models with smart driving systems, offering three different solutions tailored for entry-level, mid-range, and high-end models, an insider at the company told Yicai yesterday.

The entry-level solutions will be supplied by full-stack intelligent cabin driving solution provider Raincom Technology, the mid-range ones will be independently developed by BYD, and the high-end ones will be co-developed by BYD and autonomous driving startup Momenta, the insider noted, adding that smart driving chips will be from Horizon and Nvidia.

BYD sold over 4.2 million cars globally last year, up 41 percent from the year before and retaining its position as the world's top NEV seller for the third consecutive year. It also surpassed SAIC Motor to become the largest Chinese automaker by sales.
