(Yicai) Jan. 20 -- Jinjiang Paradise in Shanghai, the city's first large amusement park, will close for renovation later this month and likely reopen in 2027.

The park will launch a comprehensive renovation and upgrade project after closing on Jan. 26, Jinjiang Paradise announced today.

Established in 1984, Jinjiang Paradise covers an area of 103,000 square meters and features more than 30 amusement facilities, including the over 100-meter-tall Shanghai Ferris Wheel, China's first Ferris wheel.

During the extensive renovation, some iconic attractions, such as the Ferris wheel, will be preserved but upgraded, Cui Lifeng, deputy general manager of Jinjiang Paradise, told Yicai. In addition, the park plans to incorporate new tech, including immersive virtual or augmented reality experiences, so visitors can immerse themselves in fantastical virtual worlds, Cui added.

More details about the renovation will be released soon, Cui noted.

Jinjiang Paradise usually has around 3,000 to 5,000 visitors a day on weekdays and between 20,000 and 30,000 on weekends and holidays.
