Shanghai Will Add Over 153,000 NEVs in Next Three Years Shanghai Will Add Over 153,000 NEVs in Next Three Years

(Yicai Global) July 13 -- Shanghai plans to promote the use of at least 43,000, 50,000 and 60,000 new energy vehicles in 2018, 2019, 2020, respectively. The proportion of NEVs in newly-added and updated official-use vehicles will reach over 80 percent.

The city issued its clean air action plan for the period from 2018 to 2022, which will hasten the construction of urban green transport systems to lower emissions from mobile sources.

The program aims to promote use of NEVs in taxi, logistics, sanitation, and postal services. The proportion of NEVs or clean energy vehicles in newly-added and updated vehicles in these sectors will reach over 80 percent.

All buses will be NEVs by the end of 2020. Charging pile construction will also gather pace, so that EV charging facilities will have a service radius of less than one kilometer in the city center and under two kilometers beyond the outer ring road. The city aims to achieve electrification of all new vehicles in public transit, taxis, sanitation, postal and urban freight transport by 2022.

This goal seems possible to achieve, as Shanghai added 61,354 NEVs last year alone in an annual rise of 35 percent, the city's green transport development report shows.
