(Yicai Global) Aug. 29 -- Shanghai will speed up the construction of a new artificial intelligence innovation and development zone and encourage industry advancement in order to turn the eastern metropolis into a testing ground for new AI applications and a source of industry innovation, according to the city's Communist Party secretary.

The city will take advantage of the major opportunities available from expanding its free trade zone, the Shanghai Stock Exchange's Star Market and the integration of the Yangtze River Delta region in order to turn Shanghai into a global industry innovation hub, Li Qiang said at the 2019 World AI Conference today.
