(Yicai Global) March 20 -- Shanghai University of Engineering Science has completed the installation of fifth-generation mobile network infrastructure across its campuses, making it the first college in China to establish full coverage of the cutting-edge technology.
The institution has installed 5G coverage at all office buildings, research facilities and dormitories, state-backed China News Service reported.
Major carrier China Unicom has set up five outdoor 5G macro-stations to provide the coverage as well as an indoor micro-base station in the joint innovation laboratory for 5G and artificial intelligence applications.
The joint lab officially kicked off research on independent intellectual property rights and aims to develop practical applications related to video encoding with 8K resolution, digital copyright protections, AI, big data and other new technologies.
Nokia Shanghai Bell, the joint venture between the smartphone brand and China Huaxin Post & Telecommunication Economy Development Center, acted as a host for the inauguration ceremony for the new network though it was not specified as an equipment supplier for the system.
