Shanghai SIPG Reportedly Offers USD159 Million for Borussia Dortmund Striker, German Club Unaware

(Yicai Global) Jan. 6 -- Shanghai International Port Group Football Club, which signed Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Júnior in December, offered a transfer fee of EUR150 million (USD158.9 million) to the Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who plays in Germany's Bundesliga and is a Gabon international, Italian media reported.

Shanghai SIPG FC hopes the offer will attract the 27-year-old who bagged 20 goals this season, second only to Edinson Cavani's 24 among the top-scoring players in the big five football leagues of Spain's La Liga, Italy's Serie A, France's Ligue 1, the English Premier League and the Bundesliga, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported.

Aubameyang will reportedly receive a weekly wage of EUR800,000 (USD848,497), bringing his annual salary to EUR41 million.

When German media tried to confirm the offer's authenticity with Borussia Dortmund, the club said it was unaware of the proposition. Major European football clubs, including Real Madrid, have also shown interest in Aubameyang.

China's General Administration of Sports has been working to prevent further signings of foreign players using jacked-up transfer fees and salaries in the hope of promoting the careers of young, local players. They proposed capping recruitment and remuneration on their website yesterday.

Shanghai SIPG already has four foreign players including Oscar, Hulk, Elkeson and Ahmedov.
