(Yicai Global) July 31 -- Authorities in Shanghai have set up a monitoring system to check hotel room prices ahead of the first China International Import Expo, which is less than 100 days away.

The mechanism will ensure that there are enough rooms available near Shanghai's National Exhibition and Convention Center, which will host the event. The system will also stabilize accommodation prices and coordinate with neighboring cities to ensure accommodation availability, state-backed online news outlet The Paper reported representatives at a preparatory conference as saying.

Shanghai is home to 1,711 higher-end hotels with more than 80 rooms with a total of 256,607 rooms and approximately 411,000 beds on offer.

More than 80 hotels are already well prepared for accommodating foreign dignitaries, domestic distinguished guests, provincial and municipal procurement groups and domestic and foreign journalists, a representative at the conference said.

The city has instructed local booking giant Ctrip as well as other major online hotel platforms to enhance real-time monitoring and respond promptly to hotel room rates and reservations.

The city is also coordinating with nearby Suzhou Tourism Bureau to ensure accommodation is sufficient in neighboring cities including Wujiang, Taicang and Kunshan. There are 49 hotels and about 8,860 rooms available for supplementary accommodation.
