(Yicai) Oct. 22 -- Shanghai Port and the Port of Hamburg are joining forces to establish a ‘green shipping corridor’ that will promote the green and low-carbon transformation of the two ports and will inject new vitality into the sustainable development of the global shipping industry.
The Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission and Hamburg Port Authority together with shipping giant Cosco Shipping Lines and Shanghai International Port Group will build the ‘Shanghai Port-Hamburg Port Green Shipping Corridor,’ which will set a new benchmark for the sustainable development of the global shipping industry, the two ports said at the 2024 North Bund International Shipping Forum today.
The group will work with stakeholders such as shipping companies, equipment suppliers, energy providers and terminal operators so that ships that dock at the two ports can achieve carbon neutrality as soon as possible, in an important step that will accelerate the decarbonization of the shipping industry, they said.
The parties will work together to promote the use of shore power at the terminal and explore the construction of the infrastructure, regulations and preferential policies needed for the supply, use and refueling of green fuels, according to the memorandum of understanding. They will invite more partners to team up to achieve the goal of the green shipping corridor, share information and spread the benefits of green shipping corridors.
