(Yicai Global) Oct. 25 -- Shanghai police have arrested 19 suspects from five different companies in a food safety scam involving 276 tons of expired dairy products used in baking that were imported from New Zealand.
They are accused of repackaging the expired dairy products, modifying the date of production and selling them at a price lower than market price.
To avoid detection, the expired dairy products were imported as fodder, according to state media Xinhua News Agency. Some 100 tons were sold by various means including wholesale brick-and-mortar stores and online shopping platforms. Some buyers were well-known cake shop chains.
