(Yicai Global) Nov. 29 -- Shanghai-based media giant Oriental Pearl Media Co. [SHA:600637] unveiled its new 'community brain' during a presentation in Shanghai's Yangpu District yesterday. The firm hopes the brain, which integrates artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, will provide a new model for community management.
The product meets demand for public security, services and management within communities, the company said. It provides a basis for community management through multiple sensors and has more than 20 functions, including a fire alarm and real-time monitoring of unmanned bike shelters.
IoT is a vital extension of Oriental Pearl's strategy, Zhang Wei, president, said at the presentation. The company will cooperate with leading enterprises in the sector to work with smart terminals, cloud computing, Big Data and AI, he added.
Oriental Pearl struck deals with US-based tech giant Microsoft Corp. [NASDAQ:MSFT] and Chinese internet behemoth Tencent Holdings Ltd. [HKG:0700] in June this year. It also joined hands with leading Chinese companies, including Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. [NYSE:BABA] and Baidu Inc. [NASDAQ:BIDU] and Tencent, to inaugurate an industry alliance at the presentation.
The Internet of Things has marked a new wave of development in the information technology industry and is set to be worth as much as CNY40 trillion (USD6.06 trillion) as a global industry by 2020, with a CNY1.8-trillion market in China.
