(Yicai) July 11 -- The public bidding process for Shanghai Disneyland's new expansion project with a total investment of CNY2.5 billion (USD343.8 million) has officially begun.
The new project will include six amusement facilities on an area of about 21,306 square meters, for a total building area of 6,228 sqm, according to a tender announcement published by Shanghai Disney Resort's operator Shanghai International Resort on Shanghai's construction engineering trading platform.
Shanghai Disney Resort announced in March that it had begun preparations to open a new attraction next to its Zootopia-themed land, with the project still in the preliminary planning stage.
Shanghai Disney Resort has completed two expansions since its opening in June 2016. The first was a Disney Pixar Toy Story land in April 2018, and the second was the Zootopia land in December last year.
Some 25.6 million people visited Shanghai International Resort last year, which includes the Disneyland, up 44 percent from 2019. The resort's revenue soared 84 percent to CNY18.5 billion (USD2.5 billion) in the period. Both figures were new record highs.
