(Yicai Global) Feb. 1 -- Shanghai has canceled almost 11,400 group tours bought in the eastern city by more than 200,000 travelers to visit domestic and overseas destinations due to the ongoing novel coronavirus outbreak.

More than 110 of the city's top tourist attractions, including Shanghai Disneyland and Haichang Ocean Park, have been temporarily closed due to the spread of the virus that causes pneumonia, Zhang Qi, deputy director of the Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, said at a press conference today.

Some 259 people have died in China due to the new type of respiratory disease that started from Central Hubei province's Wuhan. In the same country, nearly 11,900 people have been infected by the virus which has prompted the World Health Organization to declare a global health emergency.

Over 4,200 public venues in Shanghai, including museums and libraries, have also shut their doors for now, said Zhang. More than 100 performances were called off.

Between Jan. 22 and Jan. 29, eight cruises have arrived at Shanghai's Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal. The city's authorities have stepped up supervision at the terminal and detected five suspected cases, all of which have been cleared. Since Jan. 30, the city's port traffic has been suspended.
