Shanghai Exhibition Center Walkway Extension Will Open Next Month for CIIE Shanghai Exhibition Center Walkway Extension Will Open Next Month for CIIE

(Yicai Global) Aug. 8 -- The main structure of the second-floor east walkway extension project that links the Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District with the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) is now complete and will go into use late next month.

The eight-meter-high pedestrian walkway is a key complementary project for the inaugural China International Import Expo, which will convene at the NECC between Nov. 5 and 11.

The elevated corridor will provide great convenience for CIIE participants and visitors to access the NECC, state online news outlet The Paper reported.

It will take only about 10 minutes to walk from the Hongqiao CBD to the NECC via the 504-meter covered pedestrian route, which spans rail lines, rivers and elevated roads.

In addition to serving pedestrians, the corridor is also an important sightseeing attraction in the district and can also serve as an emergency transport route at need, per the report.

At least 10 months would be required to build the project under normal circumstances. Construction is, however, expected to finish in six months under the coordination of the CBD's management committee.

At 0.5 million square meters in total, the NEEC is the world' largest exhibition center, per data on the CBD's official website.
