Shanghai Electric Wins CNNC’s Steam Turbine Order for Nuclear Power Plants Shanghai Electric Wins CNNC’s Steam Turbine Order for Nuclear Power Plants

(Yicai Global) Aug. 18 -- Shanghai Electric Group has received an order of steam turbines to be used in China National Nuclear's two nuclear power plants.

Shanghai Electric has penned an equipment procurement contract with CNNC’s subsidiary China Nuclear Power Engineering, the power generation and electrical equipment manufacturing company said in a statement on its WeChat account today, without disclosing financial or delivery details.

The steam turbines will be used in units No. 7 and No. 8 in eastern China's Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant, as well as in units No. 3 and No. 4 in the northeastern Xudabao Nuclear Power Plant.

The two Tianwan units will start construction in December, and the construction period for each of them is 65 months. Those in Xudabao should begin next May and it takes 69 months for each of them to be ready.

The four upcoming units should have a capacity of more than 3,200 megawatts each. The value of every project is USD1.7 billion, according to the contracts that Beijing-based CNNC and Russia's Rosatom Atomic Energy Construction Export inked early last year.

The steam turbine deal should consolidate Shanghai Electric's leading position in the related technologies, the firm added.

Shanghai Electric’s stock price [SHA:601727] rose 3.9 percent to CNY6.12 (88 US cents) this afternoon.
