(Yicai Global) Jan. 10 – Shanghai International Theme Park and Resort Management Co, which manages and operates Shanghai Disney Resort on behalf of owners, The Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group, plans to recruit about 2,000 "cast members" in 2017.
"This year we plan to recruit around 2,000 people including interns," Lara Tiam, vice president of human resources at the park, told Yicai Global.
"Cast member" is a special title given by Disney to its employees. The Shanghai park currently has more than 10,000 cast members.
Ninety-eight percent of the employees in the Shanghai Disney Resort are local residents, said Philippe Gas, the park's general manager, in an interview with Yicai Global.
"In the future, we'll continue to localize human resources. Of course, certain managerial posts that require some special skills will be held by expatriates, but local staff are also being trained for such positions," said Gas.
In November 2016, Shanghai Disney Resort announced its first extension project, "Sunny Paradise," within six months of the park's launch. The project is currently under construction and is due to open in 2018.
Shanghai Disney Resort cost USD5.5 billion to build and is situated on an area stretching 963 acres in Shanghai's Pudong district. It is the first Disney resort in the Chinese mainland and three times the size of the Hong Kong Disneyland.
