(Yicai Global) Dec. 28 -- Shanghai AtHub Co. [SHA:603881] will invest USD880 million (USD135 million) to build a data center for internet colossus Alibaba Group [NYSE:BABA] and take charge of its operation and property management for 10 years.
AtHub, whose clientele mainly comprises large internet concerns, has received a framework agreement on this project from Alibaba, the former said yesterday.
The latter will provide land for the project, while AtHub will organize its construction per Alibaba's requirements, it said.
Alibaba will rent the center upon its completion and undertake the planning, design, investment and construction of the designated systems and mechanical and electrical equipment, while AtHub will be tasked with operation and maintenance, hosting and property management of the center throughout the service period.
Partial delivery of the project is slated for the end of next December. Upon acceptance and delivery, AtHub will negotiate and sign service contracts with Alibaba, the firm said.
The statement did not reveal the data center's location, however, but AtHub said in April it will build computer labs and provide data center services to Alibaba in China's north-central Hebei province.
