(Yicai Global) May 26 -- Shanghai's market regulator handed H&M a CNY134,000 (USD20,960) fine and confiscated over CNY30,000 (USD4,693) in illegal income after detecting quality issues in the Swedish retailer's children's products.
The Shanghai Market Supervision and Administration Bureau said on May 12 that certain products had failed to meet the national standards for human health, corporate information platform Tianyancha shows. The administrative punishment totals more than CNY164,000 (USD25,027).
H&M has recently been facing headwinds in China. District market regulators in Shanghai have given the Stockholm-headquartered company five administrative penalties, totaling around CNY760,000, for quality issues this year.
On May 8, the SAMR ordered the retailer to rectify after finding products without proper labeling. In January, H&M said it will recall more than 300 products, including dresses and sportswear pants, because they might be dangerous for kids.
