(Yicai Global) Sept. 21 -- China recently increased the speed of its Renaissance EMU (electric multiple-unit) high-speed train, making it the world's fastest commercial train.

The Renaissance EMU ran at 350 kilometers per hour on the Beijing-Shanghai line today, taking about four and a half hours to travel between the two cities, Beijing Youth Daily reported.

The Renaissance EMU also improved rider experience by widening spaces between seats, providing full Wi-Fi coverage and increasing the number of power sockets to six per row. Riders can manually adjust the brightness and color temperature of the reading lamp above each seat or set it to automatically change.

The high-speed train features proprietary intellectual property. Its designed service life is 30 years. The train has many cutting-edge technologies that significantly improve its safety, economic efficiency, coziness and environmental friendliness. It provides more travel choices for people living in major cities along the railway line and better meets travelers' demand for high-speed rail transportation at different speeds, said a China Railway Corp. officer.
