(Yicai Global) Dec. 20 -- A record 1,200 vehicles with Chinese automaker BYD’s DM-i Super Hybrid drive technology have arrived in Colombia.

Their entry set a new record for the most DM-i-powered units in a single delivery, Shenzhen-based BYD said on its official WeChat account.

The DM-i models are the first Chinese brand of hybrid cars to sell well in Latin America. Colombia took 200 Qin Plus DM-i and 1,000 Song Plus DM-i this time, after receiving a batch of 500 autos with the drive technology at the start of this year.

In 2020, BYD partnered with Motorysa, a Colombian car vendor, to sell all of its passenger vehicle series powered by new batteries in the South American country. BYD has delivered nearly 3,000 NEVs to Colombia, becoming a major NEV brand in the local market.

BYD’s NEVs have sold in many Latin American countries, also including Brazil and Chile, the carmaker added.
