Pujiang Special Gas to Take Other Firms' Trash to Make Hydrogen for 10,000 NEVs Each Hour Pujiang Special Gas to Take Other Firms' Trash to Make Hydrogen for 10,000 NEVs Each Hour

(Yicai Global) July 2 -- China's Pujiang Special Gas will start producing hydrogen to provide the fuel resource for 10,000 new energy vehicles.

Pujiang Special Gas will start creating hydrogen as a by-product from Secco Petrochemical's and Chlor-Alkali Chemical's business lines at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, the local methane processor said in a statement.

Firms at the industrial park can produce about 50,000 cubic meters of hydrogen per hour, which can fully meet the fuel demand of over 10,000 hydrogen vehicles, Pujiang Special Gas's Chairman Liu Wei said.

Shanghai's municipal government has piloted 600 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the city, while proposing to have 50,000 such vehicles by 2030.

Hydrogen is the most efficient source of energy by its weight but currently more expensive than many other renewable energy sources due to its costly production process and storage. Hydrogen fuel is burned with oxygen, and the only by-product of the chemical reaction is water.
