(Yicai Global) Dec. 25 -- Laptops of Chinese gadget brand Honor, which Huawei Technologies sold last month, can be equipped with Microsoft Windows 10 worldwide based on a new deal.

Honor's MagicBook Pro notebook, featuring Microsoft Windows 10 and an Intel Core i5 processor, will be launched overseas next month, an employee at the brand owner told Yicai Global. Honor announced the global deal with Washington-based Microsoft yesterday.

Huawei sold its sub-brand Honor to a joint venture between a company under the Shenzhen government and over 30 dealers and agents for a reported CNY100 billion (USD15.3 billion) in November, leaving a gap in the Chinese firm's consumer business.

Founded in 2013, Honor helped turn Huawei into the world’s second-biggest smartphone supplier last year. The business was spun out in April amid Huawei's shortage of chips after the Trump administration set limits on its purchases of US tech.

Hsinchu-headquartered MediaTek and California-based Qualcomm are applying with the US government to supply Honor's phones with chips, Yicai Global learned.

"We are looking forward to cooperating with Honor," Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon told reporters at the Snapdragon Tech Summit held early this month. Qualcomm has already begun a dialogue with Honor, he added.
