(Yicai Global) Oct. 12 -- Some 173 electric vehicles used Shanghai's first operational electric vehicle charging station during the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival Holidays.

The charging station integrates cutting-edge technologies such as a photovoltaic power generation system, a large-capacity energy storage battery and smart charging piles. It can juice up vehicles' batteries at night using stored photovoltaic energy, per information from the State Council's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission.

Some 44 rooftop photovoltaic cells on buildings near the charging center have a generation capacity of about 100 kilowatt hours per day. The photovoltaic power and energy storage systems run simultaneously at the charging station, which can draw from the public power grid on gloomy and rainy days as well as when vehicle energizing demand is high.
