(Yicai Global) July 31 -- Otis Worldwide has started operating its largest global escalator production base in China's eastern Zhejiang province to boost output.

Otis's Jiaxing factory should meet the demand of China and foreign countries, the Paper reported, citing the Connecticut-headquartered company.

After a nearly year-long construction phase, the plant, equipped with smart management systems, was finished in June. The company has paid special attention to product traceability.

Elevators and escalators will play an important role in the process of China's urbanization and Otis is developing smart solutions to improve efficiency and passenger experience, said Chen Kang, president of Otis Elevator China.

Otis was spun out of United Technologies in 2018. It currently maintains more than 2 million elevators and escalators worldwide.
