(Yicai Global) June 10 -- Zhuhai Orbita Aerospace Science & Technology will provide the government of Zhuhai in China's southeastern Guangdong province with satellite remote sensing data services.
The company, whose main business is provision of such services, received the winning bid notice from the mainland city adjacent to Macau on June 6, Orbita announced today. The contract is worth CNY83.6 million (USD12 million).
Orbita will supply remote sensing products and services based on the Zhuhai government's requirements, and whose scope includes natural resource exploration, environmental and oceanographic monitoring, traffic management, and environmental protection, per the announcement.
The company is creating a 'satellite space information platform' based on micro and nano satellites that includes dozens of video and hyper-spectral satellites, radar and infrared satellites, and ground receiving and data distribution networks set up throughout China.
After its platform is complete, the company's data transmission and receiving, storage and processing ability will reach 7,000 terabytes per year, information on its website shows.
One terabyte is a unit of information equal to one million million bytes.
