(Yicai Global) March 30 -- Responding to the crisis sparked by a Chinese employee of the Indian branch of Oppo Electronics Corp. "tearing up the Indian national flag and dumping it into dustbin," Oppo admitted the employee's misconduct but denied he tore up the national flag. However, Oppo has ended the Chinese employee's contract.
When a Chinese production leader inspected the cleanliness level, he dropped an Indian national flag placed on the workstation by an Indian staff into the dustbin, which caused conflict and then attracted the local media attention, Oppo's Indian branch was quoted by the Indian media as saying.
The company assured that it was an individual behavior and that they would not tolerate this kind of incident at all, therefore, deciding to dismiss the employee. The local business operation of the company has not been impacted.
On March 28, quickly circulating rumors suggested that "one Chinese manager tore up an Indian national flag and dropped it into dustbin," leading to hundreds of Indian employees protesting and surrounding Oppo's Indian Noida branch in New Delhi. They demanded the Chinese employee be investigated and arrested.
Oppo ranked first in China in terms of mobile phones shipment last year, shows data from the market research firm IDC. Oppo operates in more than 20 countries and regions in the world.
