(Yicai Global) Oct. 16 -- Shenzhen OnePlus Science & Technology Co.'s smartphones collect private data without informing users, foreign media reported recently. The firm has admitted to the problem and pledged to stop collecting such data by the end of this month.
The handsets transmit only two kinds of data, users' behavioral data and device information, OnePlus said. The company aims to better understand general usage in order to optimize systems to offer better user experiences, it added.
If users do not want such information to be collected, they can prevent the phone from sending the data.
The firm has since pledged to add a reminder to its system installation wizard which prompts users to ask if they want to partake in the user experience program. Users' mobile numbers, MAC addresses and Wi-Fi information will no longer be collected.
