(Yicai Global) Nov. 15 -- Baidu Research, a lab which explores the uses of artificial intelligence, has set up an advisory board with nine new hires of internationally renown scientists.

The board includes David Belanger, the former vice president and chief scientist at AT&T Labs, David Forsyth, a computer vision professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, and Vipin Kumar, the winner of data mining acknowledgment called ACM SIGKDD Innovation Award in 2017, the Beijing-based tech firm said at a meeting in Silicon Valley yesterday.

Mark Liberman, an American computational linguist, and Martial Hebert, a robotics professor at Carnegie Mellon University, also joined. The advisory board will track AI trends and offer suggestions for future research topics.

Baidu Research also made known its latest achievements in nine areas such as natural language processing, speech recognition, high-performance computing and deep learning at the meeting.

Founded in 2014, Baidu Research has offices in Silicon Valley, Seattle and Beijing, and it owns labs specialized in fields such as deep learning, business intelligence, robotics, and autonomous driving. Those carry out studies into areas including natural language processing, computer vision, speech recognition, and big data.
