(Yicai Global) July 6 -- New media animation has grown rapidly in recent years, and internet, particularly mobile internet, has become the major channel of animation dissemination, says the latest report from Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film & TV.

The administration issued the 2016 Annual Report on Shanghai's Animation Industry yesterday. As of end-2016, Shanghai had 21 recognized animation firms, five major animation companies and seven key animation products.

Shanghai last year established an animation industry targeting both domestic and overseas markets, producing diversified content, including animations, films, comics and animation derivatives, the report said. An integrated dissemination network involving television, graphics, traditional and mobile internet has formed, with the new media being the major dissemination channel for animation, the report noted.

Over the next three years, Shanghai's animation industry will continue to lead in China's original animated film industry, build cross-industry story reserves and unveil films with heavy investment, quality production and good content, while its new media animation industry will focus on developing products with educational features for dissemination via mobile devices and create new media animated works for family education and entertainment purposes.
