(Yicai Global) March 5 -- NetEase will focus on the education of younger users going forward, the founder of the Chinese tech giant said at the annual meetings of the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the country's top political advisory body.
Chief Executive William Ding, known as Ding Lei in Chinese, aims to use the Guangzhou-based firm's smart products to help students study harder and use their smartphones less.
Ding attended the two sessions for the second straight year as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and submitted his proposals focused on the development of teenagers. The government should encourage developers to create content suitable for teenagers and offer the legislative safeguards to build secure and healthy internet ecosystems for adolescents, he said. They should also provide more sites related to children's outdoor activities, he added.
NetEase aims to eliminate the disparity in education between rural and urban areas via artificial intelligence and other cutting edge technologies. The firm has been exploring the field of AI+ Education. For instance, the intelligent dot-matrix pen can reduce the time taken by teachers to check students' homework while the pen translator can increase students' efficiency when studying independently.
Ding also discussed demands for smart technology in the manufacturing sector, saying that AI and big data can optimize production.
E-commerce can also provide support for China's strategy of targeted poverty alleviation, he said. Authorities can help poverty-stricken areas to create their own brands of products with localized features, and then introduce consultants to develop online sales.
