(Yicai) Feb. 13 -- The staggering success of Ne Zha 2 has propelled demand for related merchandise, with the Chinese animated movie continuing to set new box office records.

Pop Mart's Ne Zha 2 blind box figurines, priced at CNY69 (USD9.45) a piece and CNY552 (USD75.50) for the complete set, have seen a surge in demand and quickly sold out on the toy maker's online and offline stores.

Yicai visited several Pop Mart shops in Guangzhou and found that although the blind boxes were displayed in the most prominent spots, they were already out of stock. According to an announcement on the firm's flagship stores on Tmall, one of the boxes will likely be available as early as the end of June and no later than the end of July.

"The products were quickly snapped up after the movie released," a salesperson at one of the stores told Yicai. Customers can still pre-order the items, which will be delivered to their homes once restocked, the person added.

Other merchandise authorized by the producers of Ne Zha 2, including trading cards, plush toys, vinyl figures, film strips, fridge magnets, badges, and stickers, are also seeing a boom in sales.

Due to strong demand, some consumers have bought the merch to resell it at high prices on used goods platforms. Some sellers on Poizon are asking CNY2,999 (USD411) for the full set of Ne Zha 2 blind box figurines, Yicai found.

Ne Zha 2 has set and continues to set records since its release on Jan. 29, including raking in the highest first-day box office and highest single-day box office for a Chinese animated film at CNY486 million (USD66.7 million), becoming the Chinese mainland's highest-grossing film after grossing CNY5.8 billion (USD793 million) to dethrone the Battle at Lake Changjin on Feb. 6, and the first movie worldwide with takings of over USD1 billion in a single market.

As of earlier today, Ne Zha 2 box office exceeded CNY9.7 billion (USD1.3 billion).

The film recently held premiere events in Los Angeles, Toronto, and Sydney. Its official release in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea is today, while it will start screening in the US and Canada tomorrow.
