(Yicai Global) June 21 -- Chinese social platform Momo has unveiled a new augmented reality feature that tones up users in real time as they record videos.
Users opting to exploit the feature will be able to choose how much thinner they would like to look on a scale of one to five, with immediately visible results. The feature uses artificial intelligence to track users' bodies and make them appear slimmer than their surroundings.
Video is becoming an effective way for young people to express themselves and meet new people, said Zhang Tao, head of the firm's deep learning lab, adding that there are plans to roll out more interesting features to improve the app's social experience.
Momo, which boasts over 100 million users, has turned toward video content as its primary business in recent years as it looks to shirk off its image as a hook-up app. The firm took a lot of flak in its early years for promoting promiscuity, and has pumped millions of dollars into trying to reverse that reputation and cover all relationship-building bases. Last month, it bought a 100 percent stake in China's Tinder replica Tantan, which is known for protecting women online.
The swipe-to-like app sends automatic notifications to those who receive suspect or sexual messages from men and allows them to quickly report malicious behavior, if necessary.
