(Yicai) April 1 -- China’s first collaborative pop-up store between Chinese discount retailer Miniso and Japanese manga and anime series Chiikawa sold CNY2.7 million (USD370,000) of goods within the first 10 hours of its doors opening today.
Visitors to the shop need to book ahead, with enthusiastic shoppers reserving all available slots from today to April 3 within two minutes of bookings starting yesterday.
Shoppers with a reservation code still have to wait in line to enter the store. Most had to wait more than an hour, others over five hours, and some even around 10 hours, they told Yicai.
Chiikawa was created by Japanese caricaturist Nagano and has gained much popularity thanks to its heartfelt stories and cute characters. Miniso has also held co-branded pop-up events with other well-known intellectual property owners, including Barbie and Loopy.
