(Yicai Global) May 24 -- Nearly 20 entrepreneurs are accompanying German Chancellor Angela Merkel on her two-day state trip to China as the two nations look to make a more welcoming investment environment and promote world trade.
Merkel touched down in Beijing today at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, marking her first visit to China since being reelected to her fourth term in March, Gao Feng, spokesman for China's commerce ministry, said at a press briefing today.
"Merkel's visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of China's reform," Gao said. "She will lead an economic delegation to Shenzhen, which is at the forefront of China's opening up.
"There is vast space for cooperation," he continued. "The ministry believes that with support from the leaders of the two countries, China and Germany have the potential to form mutually beneficial ties in emerging areas such as digitization, new-energy and autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence.
"Even though Germany and China are in different stages of development, we both advocate free trade and the multilateral system, and oppose protectionism. China is willing to make joint efforts with Germany to send the world a positive image of free trade and promote world economic development."
