(Yicai Global) Sept. 12 -- The 51 electric buses jointly made by China's BYD Co. [SHE:002594] and the UK's Alexander Dennis Ltd. that have hit the roads of central London are Europe's biggest electric bus fleet.
BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu said that the UK delivery represents BYD's largest electric bus project outside China. The Shenzhen-based company hopes to break into the European market via the project.
During Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the UK last October, BYD and ADL signed a GBP660 million deal to jointly manufacture 200 12-meter-long single-decker electric buses a year.
Europe's previous largest electric bus fleet was the 35 BYD buses at the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands.
