(Yicai Global) Aug. 20 -- It has been exactly a year since the Lingang New Area was added to the Shanghai free trade zone and during this time, the area has attracted nearly 360 projects, including the expansion of Tesla's Gigafactory, with a total investment of CNY271.4 billion (USD39.2 billion).

Tesla's first overseas factory is going through its second phase of construction.

China's Sany Heavy Industry is one of the companies that has built a factory in the area. More than 15,100 firms have been registered in the Lingang New Area during the past 12 months, with more than CNY200 billion (USD28.9 billion) in registered capital.

The Shanghai Planetarium is expected to open to the public next year.

Yangshan Port has boosted its international operations as some 1.6 million twenty-feet units passed through the deepwater port in the first half, rising 9.7 percent from a year ago.
