(Yicai Global) Dec. 27 -- China's technology giant Lenovo will build one of its three global headquarters in Shenzhen by 2020, said Yang Yuanqing, chairman and CEO of Lenovo Group Ltd. [HK: 0992], at the Shenzhen Entrepreneurs Convention yesterday. Lenovo's move will further consolidate Shenzhen's status as China's technology hub
Lenovo has maintained long-running ties with Shenzhen as a technology enterprise. Four years after its founding in Beijing's technology hub Zhongguancun in 1984, it established its research and development and production center for computer motherboards and display cards in Saige Technology Park in Shenzhen.
Nearly 30 years on, Lenovo has set up many of its key business sectors and functions in Shenzhen, Yang said. Shenzhen now is home to Lenovo's most critical global R&D center and supply chain operation center, as well as global finance division. Lenovo has more than 5,000 employees in Shenzhen. The company's ThinkPad laptop factory and the server manufacturing base are also in Shenzhen. "Some 70 percent of the servers that we are selling around the world are made in Shenzhen," Yang said.
