(Yicai Global) June 15 -- Construction of Lenovo’s first factory in Europe has been completed, according to the Chinese personal computer maker.

The plant, which covers an area of 50,000 square meters in the town of Ollo, near Hungary’s capital city of Budapest, was finished yesterday, Beijing-based Lenovo said in a WeChat post yesterday. It will mainly produce high-end PC workstations, servers, and storage systems, and will be able to turn out 4,000 workstations and 1,000 servers a day.

Lenovo announced in 2020 that it would spend more than EUR20 million (USD20.9 million) on the new factory to meet European market demand. It also is expected to create about 1,000 local jobs, Xinhua News Agency reported at the time.

As business continues to grow globally for the world’s biggest PC maker, the Hungarian plant will become the cornerstone of its development in Europe, said Guan Wei, Lenovo’s senior vice president for global supply chain. The factory will better serve European customers, demonstrate to clients the company’s manufacturing ability, and enhance the global influence of Chinese brands, he added.

Europe, the Middle East and Africa account for nearly 25 percent of Lenovo’s business. EMEA revenues jumped 15 percent to USD18.3 billion in the fiscal year ended March 31 from a year earlier, per the company’s latest annual financial report. Total revenue climbed almost 18 percent to USD71.6 billion.

With nearly 82 million PC shipments and a 23.5 percent share of the global market, Lenovo continued to rank first worldwide last year, according to market research firm IDC.
