(Yicai Global) June 27 -- A Chinese company has inked a deal stateside to bring the country's much-loved Lanzhou beef noodles dish to the North American market.
The Lanzhou Stretched Noodle Industry Association has signed an agreement with the North America Lanzhou Beef Noodle Catering Culture Group to open 10 restaurants by the end of the next year across the US, Canada and Mexico, local newspaper the Lanzhou Daily reported, adding that there are plans to open 100 outlets in the future.
A daily staple of locals in Lanzhou, capital of China's northwestern Gansu province, the noodles are enjoyed nationwide for their full flavor and affordable prices. It is estimated that restaurants selling the delicacy total more than 100,000 across the country and are affectionately known as the "local McDonalds."
Plans are afoot for a Hollywood production team to come to Lanzhou to shoot a promotion film about the dish from an American perspective, Southern California Chinese Chamber of Commerce Chairman Roy Ying said.
The agreement also includes plans for the establishment of noodle research institutes so as to carry out research on the delicacy.
