Kunshan City Asks 270 Enterprises to Partially Halt Production to Ensure Water Quality Kunshan City Asks 270 Enterprises to Partially Halt Production to Ensure Water Quality

(Yicai Global) Dec. 26 -- Kunshan city in East China's Jiangsu province issued an urgent notice on Dec. 24, asking 270 enterprises and companies in the city to partially suspend production. The move aims to guarantee that the water quality in examination sections of the national and provincial surface water from rivers in Kunshan meets the requirements, online media outlet the Paper reported.

The recent automatic monitoring data in Kunshan disclosed a grim picture of the water quality in the said sections, making it hard to meet the requirements, the report said. Therefore, the city government has decided to order all industrial enterprises and companies to partially halt production from Dec. 25 to Jan. 10 next year. The city will decide whether to extend the ban depending on the water quality on Jan. 10, the notice said.

Zhou Guohua, deputy director of production safety administration and environmental protection bureau of Kunshan National Hi-tech Industrial Development Area, confirmed the notice, but noted that involved factories were required to reduce waste water emission in certain procedures instead of stopping all production activities.
