(Yicai Global) Aug. 4 -- Major Chinese job website Zhipin.com, also known as BOSS, has admitted flaws in its company vetting process after the death of a job applicant in the northern coastal city of Tianjin. College student Li Wenxing was caught in a pyramid selling scam after applying for a job advertised at Zhipin.com and died after disappearing for several days, media reported on Aug. 2.
Zhipin.com, owned by Beijing Huapin Borui Network Technology Co., said it would bear its responsibilities in accordance with laws when the whole thing becomes clear
Li is not the first to be scammed while applying for a job via Zhipin.com. Pyramid salespersons sometimes pretend to be recruiters on this kind of platforms.
Zhang Xiaowen (pseudonym), who was looking for a Java developer job, suffered losses of nearly CNY30,000 after applying for a position advertised on the site, Beijing News reported yesterday.
"After I escaped from the pyramid selling group, I found the original job post at Zhipin.com had been taken down," Zhang said. He believes that the website is liable for the scam.
"To some extent, our company is also a victim. Information fraud is a problem for our industry," a director of Zhipin.com's brand department said.
The company declined to comment on how some 'recruiters' were able to conduct such activities and whether it has fulfilled its obligations as a platform.
Zhipin.com has completed four rounds of financing so far, with the latest raising USD28 million on September 2016.
