(Yicai) Jan. 20 -- A number of Chinese companies, including solar modules maker Jinko Solar and battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology, have been selected as suppliers for Masdar Clean Energy’s USD6 billion energy generation project in Abu Dhabi.

Masdar, also known as Abu Dhabi Future Energy, selected India's Larsen and Toubro and Power Construction Corporation of China as preferred engineering procurement and construction contractors for the project, the Abu Dhabi-based firm said on Jan. 17. Jinko Solar and JA Solar were chosen as preferred suppliers for solar photovoltaic modules, and CATL as preferred supplier for the battery energy storage system.

Masdar announced during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week that it joined hands with Emirates Water and Electricity to build the world's first round-the-clock gigascale combined solar and BESS project. The project, capable of delivering up to one gigawatt of baseload power 24/7, will feature a 5.2-GW solar plant and a 19-GW-hour BESS, making it the world's largest solar and BESS project.

"As Masdar's largest and most ambitious project to date, we made sure we are working with the best possible partners that will deliver to the highest standards," said Abdulaziz Alobaidli, chief operating officer of Masdar. "I look forward to working with these preferred suppliers in setting a new global benchmark in clean energy innovation."

Jinko Solar and JA Solar will each supply PV modules with a capacity of 2.6 GW, with both companies using the latest tunnel oxide passivated contact technology, better known as TopCon, with optimized parameters for maximum efficiency and production for 30 years, Masdar noted.

CATL will provide its leading Tener technology for the total capacity of 19 GWh, Masdar added. Tener technology features all-around safety, long service life, and a high level of integration, ensuring the reliable and stable operation and high efficiency of the entire project.
