(Yicai Global) Dec. 11 -- Fuzhou in southeastern Jiangxi province, the hometown of Tang Xianzu (also known as Tang Hsien-Tsu) , a famous Chinese playwright of the late Ming Dynasty plans to invest CNY1.2 billion (USD182 million) to develop tourism on the coattails of the writer and its own historical and cultural resources. Tang Xianzu is a great writer of the same period and influence as England's William Shakespeare and Spain's Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote.
The city has struck an agreement with Stratford-upon-Avon, England and Alcala de Henares, Spain to create a drama-themed town to commemorate the three literati, Hong Kong's Sing Tao Daily reported.
Fuzhou held an event in September last year with guests and scholars from China, the UK and Spain to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of the three great bards. Fuzhou's government concluded a memorandum of understanding with the delegations from Stratford-upon-Avon and Alca de Henares to jointly build a 'three masters-themed town' project in Fuzhou's Wenquan town in Linchuan district.
