(Yicai Global) Nov. 1 -- The logistics platform of China's e-commerce juggernaut JD.com Inc. [NASDAQ:JD]  will work with several large domestic electric vehicle makers to jointly make, test and develop 1,000 new energy logistics vehicles, and use these in more than 10 cities, among them Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Xi'an, the company has announced.

The cooperation is an important means of implementing JD.com's green logistics scheme, a project that seeks to implement environmental protection spanning the whole gamut of its supply chain, Sina Tech reported yesterday.

The 1,000 new energy logistics vehicles will encompass over 10 models, mainly used in urban transportation and terminal-end deliveries. JD Logistic will also forge a new energy industry alliance, and in the next five years the hundreds of thousands of fuel-powered logistics vehicles currently in use will all give way to new energy vehicles, the firm pledged.

JD Logistics first proposed the use of new energy vehicles in logistics in 2013. It now cooperates with several domestic large automobile manufacturers to put 30 vehicle models in operation or for testing in various logistics uses. The company is now the largest freight enterprise in China in infrastructure, it said, adding that that over the years it has committed to promoting environmental protection throughout its entire supply chain. Research and development and introduction of new-energy delivery vehicles will form the best synthesis of green and science and technology, it believes.
