JD.Com to Work With Shaanxi Province to Create Air Transport Network for Drones

(Yicai Global) Feb. 23 -- Chinese e-commerce giant JD.Com Inc. [NASDAQ:JD] has agreed to work with Shaanxi provincial government in western China to set up a drone flight base and build a province-wide low-altitude logistics network for unmanned aerial vehicles.

The two parties signed the agreement two days ago, state-owned news agency Xinhua reported.

Through the partnership, both parties will benefit from drones that transport huge quantities of goods to remote and poor regions, and transport fresh produce out of such regions to boost local economic development.

Drones operating in the network will be medium- and large-sized with a capacity of several tons and a flight range of over 300 kilometers.
