(Yicai Global) Oct. 28 -- JD.COM [NYSE:JD], one of China's largest e-commerce platforms, is to award staff mid-level and entry-level staff a substantial pay rise in 2017, to encourage outstanding employees.
The salary increase for entry-level staff is not less than 10 percent. For directors and middle management, the increase will be not less than 20 percent.
JD employees were notified by email of the increase in salary to prime them for the shopping frenzy of China's Single's Day, the Chinese equivalent of Black Friday in the US. The day, which falls on Nov. 11 every year, has become comfortably China's largest internet sales promotion.
Alibaba, the market leader, hit a sales peak of CNY91.2 billion (USD13.5 billion) on the unofficial celebration last year.
JD is also planning a staff housing program, using their headquarters in Yizhuang, eastern Beijing as a hub. They will construct an integrated infrastructure including offices, residential accommodation, education, health care and other facilities near the company, Yicai Global learned.
In recent years, JD has been promoting the welfare and treatment of its entry-level staff. For staff who cannot return home to see their children during the Spring Festival, JD has set up a CNY3000 welfare fund to bring them to Beijing.
In China, some 220 million Chinese work in a place other than their hometown. Their offspring come to visit them from the countryside for brief visits in the school holidays and have been dubbed little 'migratory birds'. However, it is rare for employees to fund these trips.
In addition, female employees will enjoy an extra 30 days of paid maternity leave in addition to the 90 days' leave guaranteed by the State.
