JD.Com Wins Antitrust Lawsuit Against Alibaba, Gets USD140.7 Million in Compensation JD.Com Wins Antitrust Lawsuit Against Alibaba, Gets USD140.7 Million in Compensation

(Yicai) Dec. 29 -- JD.Com said the Chinese e-commerce giant has won its anti-monopoly lawsuit against Alibaba Group Holding filed six years and was awarded CNY1 billion (USD140.7 million) in compensation from its rival.

Alibaba abused its market dominance through a “pick one of two” monopolistic practice, causing significant harm to JD.Com, the Beijing-based company said on WeChat, citing the first-instance judgment by a Beijing court today. The official court documents have not yet been published.

JD.Com sued the Hangzhou-based owner of Taobao and Tmall in 2017 after the “pick one of two” tactic forced online vendors to sell solely through Alibaba’s platforms.

Chinese authorities also mounted a big antitrust campaign against the nation’s internet platforms from 2020 to 2021. As a result, Alibaba was fined a hefty CNY18.2 billion (USD2.6 billion) for unfair market behavior, leading to the firm recording a first-quarter loss in 2021, a first for the creator of the Double 11 shopping gala since it went public in 2014.
