(Yicai Global) May 23 -- Xi'an National Civil Aerospace Industrial Base and JD.Com Inc. [NASDAQ:JD] have penned a deal on the construction of the latter's global logistics headquarters and two other buildings.
The agreement will play a crucial role in the promotion of a strategic cooperation between JD.com, one of China's largest online retailers, and Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. The agreement aims to create the country's largest integrated smart logistics industry base.
The e-commerce firm will invest CNY20.5 billion (USD3 billion) over five years in cooperation with the Xi'an airbase, Securities Daily reported. With a systematic development plan for the smart logistics business, the pair will combine their strengths to carry out their '334' project, which involves three headquarters, three platforms and four industries.
The three buildings are JD.com's global logistics headquarters, a development base for unmanned aerial vehicle development and a Big Data facility. The three platforms are for integrated intelligent logistics, flight management and Big Data operations, while the four industries covered will be smart manufacturing, intelligent logistics, cloud computing and China's 'featured towns.'
"Shaanxi is a military-based province," said Liu Qiangdong, chief executive of JD.com. "Its industrial development direction leans toward military and civilian integration of Xi'an National Civil Aerospace Industrial base. This bilateral cooperation will set an example for the country's intelligent logistics system.
"The government's strategic vision, innovative awareness, spirit of service, speed and efficiency fill me with confidence in cooperation prospects. By exporting cutting-edge capabilities and value, JD.com is well placed to foster prosperity and development in Shaanxi in new industries, such as e-commerce, high-end manufacturing, intelligent unmanned systems, Big Data and cloud computing," he added.
