JD Logistics Puts Up USD102 Million in Merchant Subsidies to Prepare for Singles' Day Shopping

(Yicai Global) Sept. 20 -- E-commerce giant JD.com Inc.'s [NASDAQ:JD] supply chain solutions arm, JD Logistics, will offer CNY666 million (USD102 million) in merchant subsidies on the online retail platform to help them prepare for China's 11.11 shopping festival, also known as Singles' Day.

The subsidies will be used to finance discounts in storage and delivery services, Chengdu Economic Daily reported on Sept. 19.

The campaign will cover such products as home appliances, goods for mothers and babies, computer, communication and consumer electronics, and apparel. Merchants using integrated storage, delivery and cloud services will receive preferential offers.

This year's 11.11 shopping festival marks the first time JD Logistics has opened up discounts on its full range of services for customers. It will provide cheaper, more efficient and more sophisticated warehousing and logistics services by offering subsidies that will ultimately provide buyers with a better shopping experience.

To ensure logistics and delivery services for both merchants and buyers, the firm plans to simultaneously roll out a number of special delivery schemes, operate tens of thousands of transportation routes, put 10,000 more vehicles into service around the clock and deploy almost three million couriers to build an integrated smart logistics system.

China's Singles' Day shopping festival has become a major annual event in the country's e-commerce sector.
