(Yicai Global) Oct. 20 -- The Italian pavilion at the fifth China International Import Expo will take its inspiration from ‘Taranto Cathedral,’ a church in the new district of Taranto designed by Giovanni Ponti, according to The Paper.

Co-developed by the Italian Trade Agency and Italian design firm Vudafieri-Saverino Partners, the pavilion is inspired by the artwork of Gio Ponti, one of Italy’s greatest architects and designers of the 20th century, the report said. Composed of hexagonal shapes, the pavilion will be built using sustainable materials and local methods, in line with the expo’s environmental theme.

2022 is the China-Italy Year of Culture and Tourism, an initiative originally planned for 2020 when the two countries celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations. This year also will be the third straight year for Italy to participate in cultural exchange exhibitions at the CIIE.

The CIIE, an important platform for trade and investment as well as cultural exchanges, will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from Nov. 5 to 10. The area set aside for cultural exchanges will cover 32,000 square meters, more than last year.
