(CBN - Global) May 13 -- Intel [NASDAQ: INTC], Tencent Games and Haier Co. [SHA:600690] jointly debuted the first gaming console developed specifically for living room entertainment based on the Tencent Games Platform at CES Asia 2016 this week.
For this first generation TGP game console, Haier is responsible for hardware production using the 'Blade' host console; Intel offers an advanced computing platform and a full technical support; and as one of the largest game operators in the world, Tencent is responsible for TGP-based system development, content import and ecosystem incubation. CES Asia 2016 is being held in Shanghai from May 11 to 13.
Gaming is big business. Some 49.63 million gaming consoles were sold worldwide in 2015, and that figure is projected to grow to 53.04 million in 2016, according to the latest statistics released by Statista. As people's incomes and the popularity of electronic devices continue to increase, the gaming community is bound to expand, and the game console market in China is on track for a full revival.
Crowdfunding for the TGP game console will start on JD.com in June, and the product is expected to be available for sale in July. In the future, it will also feature interactive technology including Intel's virtual reality applications with functional upgrades to continuously improve user experience.
